Like so many around the world, the Separated Child team has been appalled by the escalation of events in Ukraine over the past week. Our thoughts are with the families who have already lost loved ones in this devastating crisis, and with the hundreds of thousands of people who are suffering in so many ways.
Together with colleagues across the refugee sector, we are asking the UK Government to act now by putting measures in place to ensure safe passage for Ukrainian refugees and to offer long-term protection for them and their families.
We are ready to support young Ukrainian refugees through our arrival pack project, to ensure that separated children are provided with much-needed essentials like clothing and toiletries after long and often traumatic journeys. First, though, we must ensure that they can reach this country in safety.
We will keep you updated as the situation develops, and as we establish the best way to support Ukrainian refugee children arriving in the UK without their families.
